Older Parent Carer Project

WHAT IS THE OLDER PARENT CARER PROJECT?

The Older Parent Carer Project provides comprehensive and flexible case management to older parent carers and their families whose caring roles and capacities may be changing.  The Project focuses on building formal and informal networks, building individual capacities and planning for future caring roles and options.  The Project is funded by the Department of Ageing, Disability & Home Care.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

Older parent carers who are caring for their son or daughter with a disability and who are aged 65 and over.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • The intake Case Manager will take a referral and ascertain eligibility for the service.
  • A Case Manager may then visit the person/family at home to discuss individual and family needs.
  • In consultation with the parent/family appropriate planning goals may be developed.
  • The Case Manager may consider the following in response to individual needs:
    • linkage and referral to appropriate services
    • assistance with accessing accommodation options
    • future planning
    • development of formal/informal networks
    • building individual capacitieis through networking and life skills training
    • support their caring role and increased difficulties associated with ageing

The Case Manager will act as a key contact for the family and can liaise with other agencies and organisations where necessary.

WHAT IS THE COST?

The Case Manager will discuss an appropriate contribution towards the cost of services, as required.  Other government funded agencies charge their usual fees.

WHO CAN MAKE A REFERRAL?

Anyone can make a referral to this Project.
