Don’t lose your marbles!

A free day-long event showcasing local clubs and activities you can join to keep your brain healthy.

There’s a lot you can do to help keep your brain in shape – but it might not be what you expect!

People of all ages are sure to learn something new at the 2017 Brain Health Fair presented by local community service organisation, CCNB.

The free, one-day-only event includes fun, hands-on activities and plenty of opportunities to discover activities you can do to keep your brain healthy.

Open to the general public, the fair encourages attendees to learn about mental health, interact with local clubs and learn about local activities they can get involved in.

CCNB says there are five fun things to do to keep your brain healthy:

  1. Join a Club

    Social engagement is important at every stage of life and, without it, we can quickly become depressed. To avoid this, join a club such as local walking societies, sports clubs, dancing clubs, historical societies and book clubs.

  2. Learn Something New

    Intellectual stimulation can have a positive effect on our wellbeing and is often associated with lowering the risk of developing Alzheimer’s. Why not learn a new Language like Spanish – and then book yourself a holiday to Spain to put your new found skill into practice in the best possible way.

  3. Exercise

    Staying physically active is just as important as being mentally active, and taking regular exercise can be a major factor to mental health as well as physical health. Exercise is brilliant for increasing blood circulation which encourages the body to deliver the sugar your brain needs to generate new brain cells. Swimming, cycling or gentle exercise classes are all excellent methods of providing this type of exercise.

  4. Cooking

    Whether you’ve always cooked, sometimes cooked or never cooked – it’s time to start doing more of it. Not only can the act of cooking be stimulating and satisfying – it’s also a fantastic way of controlling what food you put into your body.

  5. Play Games Or Do Puzzles

    Mentally stimulating activities such as playing games or doing puzzles can help us keep our minds sharp, particularly when there’s nobody around to provide it.
